For so many new and developing therapists, supervision can feel like an obligation - a meeting we have to attend to check the boxes towards licensure. So often, supervisors on our job sites can be overworked and overwhelmed, and not have the time or energy to devote to a long-term, consistent, fulfilling supervisor/supervisee relationship. I am thrilled to be able to devote a portion of my career to set aside time for long-term, dedicated, and quality supervision for developing therapists.
My dream as a supervisor is to be able to work with a supervisee long-term - a year or more, but hopefully their entire tenure as an LAPC. Through this long-term relationship we can dive deep into general counseling skills, ethics, personal journey as a counselor, and also begin to look at specializing skills in particular interest areas as they emerge.
As no therapist can be an expert in all areas with all populations, please read more about my personal experiences to see if my experience could complement your interests:
I have 2 bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Human Development from the University of Georgia. I enjoyed being a dawg so much that I continued my Master's degree there in Professional Counseling. While at UGA, I gained experience doing individual, family, and group counseling with adults with severe and persistent mental illness and adolescents within the legal system. After graduating, I did in-home counseling with all age groups within the DFCS system and with Medicaid. I was promoted multiple times, becoming the Program Director and eventually Clinical Supervisor. In the next chapter of my career, I worked with a Drug Court providing individual, group, and family counseling to adults with Substance Use Disorders. While gaining this experience, I was lucky enough to build a private practice, where I eventually transitioned to working full time. Currently, I prefer to work with people age 12 and up. My "ideal" client is someone looking to discover who they really are, develop their self-esteem, improve their boundaries and have healthier relationships. Most of my current clients also deal with anxiety/depression.
With all of my clients I have a person-centered approach and the spirit of motivational interviewing. I routinely use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness techniques, Habit Reversal Training, and narrative techniques. I'm always looking to learn new tools and techniques and love to share them with supervisees.
