School counselors are often the only individuals with mental health training in school settings, and can be utilized as mental health professionals who are positioned and accessible to meet students’ mental health needs. In order to expand the capacity of school counselors as mental health providers, we can provide them with clinical supervision so they are able to adequately meet the needs of students. By pursuing an LPC school counselors can be equipped with the skills to provide mental health counseling that matters which will address the whole child and provide true wrap-around services in the school building. Providing LPC supervision for school counselors will expand their capacity to include therapeutic techniques that can be integrated seamlessly into the school setting to support students, increase their resilience, provide coping skills, and improve mental health as well as academic performance.

About Me: : My direct client counseling experience includes work in office, homes, schools, and hospitals with individuals, families, children, adolescents, parents, young adults, and married couples. I have worked with the Hispanic immigrant population, and those with emotional, mental, and behavioral disabilities. I am fluent in English and Spanish. I have worked as a social worker and in case management, supervised and interviewed employees, monitored their case load, trained and fostered their professional development. I also facilitated adult learning when leading partial hospitalization groups and teaching undergraduate psychology classes online. Currently I work as the Mental Health Coordinator for the Coweta County School System.
