This 5-hour live, synchronous continuing education workshop explores the ethical dimensions of working with clients who come from traumatic upbringings. Grounded in the ACA Code of Ethics and informed by trauma research, participants will examine the ethical challenges of identifying trauma, selecting and applying theory, practicing with cultural responsiveness, and sustaining clinical resilience.
Rather than presenting ethics as abstract or rule-bound, this course highlights how ethical principles actively guide clinical practice—shaping assessment decisions, intervention strategies, boundaries, cultural attunement, and scope of practice. Through case vignettes and practical interventions, participants will learn to apply ethical standards to real-world situations in ways that empower client autonomy, prevent harm, and support sustainable clinical work.
