Supporting Clients Overcoming Commonly Used Substances and Addiction

Saturday, June 8, 2024 (9:00 AM - 12:15 PM) (EDT)

Description

In this program, the therapist will present and educate professional peers about substance use and addiction. Both substance use and addiction will be identified and described, as well as effects and/or disorders related to them. Specific, commonly-used substances will be identified and described, including alcohol, opioids (including fentanyl), cocaine, methamphetamines, nicotine, and cannabis. Current data and/or statistics related to the use of these substances will also be presented and discussed. Ways of preventing substance use will be reviewed and described, as well as supportive treatments, activities, and outlets for clients who are coping with it and/or eliminating it. Two cases will be presented with attendees conceptualizing them in small groups, and presenting their conceptualization to the large group with further discussion by the therapist. References and links for two brief videos as well as other borrowed information will also be shared. This workshop is approved for 3 CORE hours.
