Satisfied or Fatigued: The Ethical Necessity Of Self-care

Satisfied or Fatigued: The Ethical Necessity Of Self-care

Saturday, June 8, 2024 (9:00 AM - 12:15 PM) (EDT)

Description

Social services providers, especially mental health professionals, are experiencing burnout! The challenges have intensified with the additional stressors brought on by COVID-19. While adapting to a new normal, practitioners find themselves neglecting their well-being while caring for others, often providing services while unwell. Every mental health code of ethics cautions on preventing impairment. Although warned, there are no specific guidelines on preventing practicing while impaired. The lack of self-care and breach of the very ethics they committed to has led to poor services, or many leaving the field for 'less stressful' careers. This workshop helps to identify signs of burnout and encourages strategies to support fulfillment by addressing compassion fatigue, impairment, and the importance of self-care. This workshop is approved for 3 ETHIC hours.
