This training equips professionals with the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to conduct comprehensive sex offender assessments. The program emphasizes the importance of ethical considerations, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication with legal decision-makers. Participants will learn to utilize evidence-based assessment tools, write detailed and defensible reports, and present their findings to judges, attorneys, and other legal professionals. 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Learn to perform thorough assessments using a range of evidence-based tools and techniques, ensuring accurate evaluations that inform legal and treatment decisions.

  2. Develop the skills to adapt assessment tools and practices to be culturally sensitive, ensuring fair and equitable treatment of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  3. Gain expertise in writing clear, concise, and comprehensive assessment reports that meet legal standards and can withstand scrutiny in court.

    4. Learn to present their findings in a manner that is understandable and persuasive to judges, attorneys, and other legal professionals, enhancing the impact of their assessments.

    5. Explore the ethical challenges specific to sex offender assessments and learn to navigate these challenges with integrity and professionalism. 

PREREQUISITE: 
This training is open to mental health professionals who have earned a master’s degree or higher in a helping relationship field, such as psychology, counseling, social work, or psychiatry. Trainees must have a solid foundation in psychological assessment and report writing, as well as experience in clinical practice. A strong understanding of ethical considerations in mental health practice is also essential. Target Audience For This Presentation: This training is designed for licensed mental health professionals, including psychologists, counselors, social workers, and other practitioners with a master's degree or above. It is particularly beneficial for those who are currently involved in or aspire to work in forensic settings, where the assessment of sex offenders is a key responsibility. The training is also ideal for professionals seeking to specialize in forensic psychology or those looking to enhance their skills in conducting complex, high-stakes assessments.

Course Completion and CE Information:

To earn CE credit, participants must be on time, sign in and sign out, attend the entire course and complete a course evaluation. This is a 12 hour course. Partial credit is not permitted. Must be present the full 6 hours of both days to receive CE certificate. Certificates of completion will be emailed within 5 business days of course completion.


CE Statements:

Summit BHC, provider #2057, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 07/31/2024 - 07/31/2025. Social workers completing this course receive 12 clinical continuing education credits.
