Numbing the Pain: The Connection between Addiction, Abuse and Trauma

Numbing the Pain: The Connection between Addiction, Abuse and Trauma

Friday, December 6, 2024 (10:00 AM - 1:15 PM) (EST)

Description

Often times people use drugs and alcohol to numb the pain of the abuse and trauma they have suffered. Research indicates that many individuals presenting for treatment for a substance use disorder also have a history of trauma. It is important to treat the whole person and recognize the underlying issues: anger, shame, low self-esteem, fear, and guilt as a result of being a victim of abuse or trauma. This webinar will provide an overview of the connection between addiction, abuse and trauma. The presenter will discuss interpersonal struggles survivors of abuse and trauma encounter and provide strategies to help clients transcend those self-defeating behaviors. The presenter and participants will review case studies and evidenced based treatment approaches and various models related to the treatment of trauma and abuse. This workshop is approved for 3 Core hours. Registration Link: http://www.survival2victory.org/workshops-1.html
