"I Studied Counseling, Not Law!"
Friday, January 30, 2026 (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM) (EST)
Description
As knowledge of our profession grows, so does the desire by the legal community to use our profession to “prove a point” in court. Without an understanding that you are not going to be their 'hired gun' and that you expect to be compensated for your associated court expenses, the counselor can end up spending all day (sometimes several days) in the courthouse waiting to testify and not get paid. This class will teach you how to include a court attendance policy in your intake paperwork, your role as a fact vs. expert witness and your professional and ethical responsibilities to your patients/clients. Finally, you will understand the difference between privacy, privilege and confidentiality as they apply to your patient/client.
