Hoarding Disorder: Exploration & Treatment

Friday, August 9, 2024 (10:30 AM - 5:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

We will provide an in-depth exploration of Hoarding Disorder, covering the latest research and treatment methods, including an innovative virtual reality approach. Participants will start by exploring their own views about possessions and attachment via a brief questionnaire. Next, we’ll delve into the history of hoarding and significant historical events such as wars, the Great Depression, and natural disasters, which have led to multi-generational trauma, loss, and 'what-if' thinking that contribute to hoarding behaviors and the disorder's progression, especially in later life. The course will review information processing issues and the unique underlying beliefs of individuals who hoard, alongside an examination of common comorbidities and the prioritization of their treatment. This workshop is approved for 6 CORE hours.
