Friday, September 12, 2025 (1:15 PM - 4:30 PM)
(EDT)
Description
This workshop will expand knowledge in working with the family and loved ones of someone with problematic substance use. In part one, participants will learn how to manage different members of the family system in early recovery to address familial challenges, heal, and change to support positive outcomes in the healing journey of the Identied Client (IC). Using a Systems Framework, attendees will learn how the concept of the IC affects the family system and how to effectively support the health of the family. In part two, participants will learn common considerations for working individually with a client who loves a problematic substance user, such as adult children of substance-using caregivers, siblings and the partners of substance users. Attendees will review the unique needs of these clients and how to best support their mental healthcare. Attendees will engage in discussion, self-reflection, and integrate this knowledge with sample case conceptualization.
