Family Matters

Friday, May 9, 2025 (9:00 AM - 12:15 PM) (EDT)

Description

This workshop will explore common barriers for therapists who work individually with kids and teens to involving parents into their work, and teach practical strategies on how to do so, while still maintaining and centering their therapeutic relationship with the minor client. This workshop will clearly discuss the differences between family therapy and 'parent involvement in therapy,' and assist therapists in discerning when to make a family therapy referral. Therapists can expect to learn concrete skills they can apply to their practice with minor clients right away, and feel more confidence in their ability to meaningfully involve their minor clients' parents in their work. Therapists will learn a model of how to set up expectations for parent involvement from the intake and beyond.
