Beyond Words: Psychophysiological Awareness in Counseling

Description
This workshop reviews body and brain models of trauma, applies current literature to the practice of counseling, and integrates somatic, breathing, and other mindfulness interventions to provide an advanced understanding of the counseling process. (NBCC Content Areas: Counseling Theory and Practice (trauma, biofeedback in counseling, psychophysiological awareness), Wellness and Prevention (exercise science))
Objective 1: Discuss existing trauma and psychological literature regarding somatic and neurological aspects of mental health.
Objective 2: Compare and contrast previous models of implementing mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation skills.
Objective 3: Create a framework that helps professional counselors assist clients in developing independent resilience, autonomy, connectedness, and regulatory abilities.
