In this presentation counselors will be introduced to the knowledge and tools to assist in navigating the legal complexities of responding to a subpoena while maintaining ethical standards and client confidentiality. Participants will be able to identify the different types of courts, have an understanding of the counselor’s role in the court room, and how to prepare for testimony.

Objectives: 

1. Be able to identify the different types of courts
2. Define your role in the court when called to testify
3. Know how to prepare for your court testimony

R. Alan Williams, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist and associate professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at Mercer University School of Medicine. Before joining Mercer Medicine, he practiced in a hospital setting for 10 years. He consults with several local and state agencies as a psychologist and provides evaluations and psychological testing for children, adults, and families. Dr. Williams has worked with his wife Tonya, a Psychometrist, for over 25 years. They have three sons who are all Mercer University graduates, as well as two grandchildren.
