Did I do this right? How anxiety and OCD sneak up on youth…and their caregivers

Friday, April 25, 2025 (10:00 AM - 11:30 AM) (EDT)

Description

Type: Live In-person @ Rogers Behavioral Health

CE: 1.5 Core Hours

This workshop is designed for therapists working with children and adolescents with OCD and/or anxiety disorders to identify the specific presentation of these conditions in children and adolescents. Additionally, participants will learn how to name common obsessive themes presenting in youth and the function of compensatory compulsive behaviors in OCD. Participants will learn how the cognitive triad explains the development and maintenance of OCD, GAD, Social Phobia and perfectionistic behaviors. Participants will learn how Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) addresses and disrupts the cycle of obsessions/compulsions to support a new learning paradigm for recovery from these dysfunctional patterns. We will discuss how family and parental accommodation unintentionally reinforces the fear that youth experience by enabling them to avoid facing those fears on their own. Lastly, we will describe how to support youth and parents in developing emotional growth and resilience through the recovery process.

Objectives:

Participants will learn to recognize signs and symptoms of OCD, GAD, and Social Phobia in children and adolescents to accurately diagnose these conditions.

Participants will be able to describe how to apply the evidence-based treatment strategy of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for children and adolescents with various diagnoses.

Participants will be able to define parental accommodation and explain the role it plays in the maintenance of anxiety disorders in youth.

ALSO: Enjoy an optional tour of the Rogers Behavioral Health facility after the event!
