Staff Therapist - University of North Georgia, Gainesville Campus

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Staff Therapist on the Gainesville campus. This position is a great opportunity for a positive and energetic mental health professional to work in an exciting, fast-paced environment providing brief mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach programming to a growing university population. Applicants must be skilled in working with a wide variety of populations and mental health issues in individual, couples, and group formats, be a strong public speaker, and be a welcoming and approachable creative professional that enjoys engaging students about mental health issues, retention, and success in a university population. Participates in on-call duties as scheduled, and as needed, and presents in-person to campus as necessary to perform face to face crisis evaluations both within and after university business hours.


Responsibilities

  • Using Evidenced-Based Practices, consistently provides ongoing mental health clinical services and manages own case load of UNG students involving intake assessments, short-term individual therapy, couples, group therapy, and crisis intervention with individuals and groups as needed while maintaining appropriate and timely case documentation and all pertinent records using an electronic medical record system. Remains present and available on campus to provide continuity of care to assigned caseload as well as ensuring ethical and committed care to students on assigned caseload. Participates in on-call duties as scheduled, and as needed, and presents in-person to campus as necessary to perform face to face crisis evaluations both within and after university business hours. Responsible for knowing, understanding, and adhering to professional code of ethics of licensure, departmental handbook guidelines, and University policies. Must maintain licensure without lapse.
  • Develops, advertises, and presents topical outreach presentations regarding mental health education/prevention efforts as needed or requested. Provides consultation services to the campus community and acts as a liaison between the office of student counseling and other campus departments and organizations as directed.
  • Provides alcohol/drug assessments and risk reduction education to students mandated through campus disciplinary procedures.
  • Develops and presents workshops and presentations to campus leadership groups (e.g. Peer Educators, Faculty/Staff.) on mental health issues faced by college students in order for those student leaders and University professionals to be able to effectively recognize and intervene with students who are struggling.
  • Active participant in strategic planning and innovation efforts for the Division of Student Affairs and other duties as assigned.
  • Be an integral member of the Behavioral Intervention Team as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of professional, national, and state ethical guidelines.
  • Training and skills with telemental health services are essential.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving.
  • Must have ability to maintain expertise in the field of counseling especially as related to issues faced by the college student population, to include knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, short-term models of treatment, and referral needs.
  • Ability to work with an electronic medical record system.
  • Ability to work independently and with professional and clerical staff; motivated and self-directed.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population; ability to maintain confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education required; in Psychology, Counseling, Marriage and Family, or Social Work preferred.
  • Current full-licensure as a professional counselor, social worker, or marriage and family required.
  • Three (3) years of therapy/counseling including personal, couples, and/or group therapy experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a college or university setting preferred.
