Job Summary


Columbus State University, a unit of the University System of Georgia, is seeking a Staff Psychologist / Counselor in the Counseling Center. The selected candidate will report to the Director of the Counseling Center under the Division of Student Affairs. This position provides psychotherapy and crisis services to CSU students on two campuses, with other duties conversant with mental health prevention and treatment.


Responsibilities


Significant Duties & Responsibilities include: This position provides clinical counseling and consultative services to the client population of the center (i.e. prospective students and enrolled students of the university). This also includes providing crisis counseling to walk-ins and documenting all sessions and other types of contact, such as consultations and phone calls (60%).; This position will provide supervision to Masters or Doctoral-level graduate students. This involves weekly supervision meetings, reviewing videotape of sessions, reading session progress notes, and providing feedback regarding clinical work and progress (30%).; This position makes appropriate referrals to campus departments and community agencies to assist students in obtaining necessary services not provided by the center (5%).; This position will present programming for the campus community (5%).


Required Qualifications


Required Qualifications include: The applicant should have demonstrated experience and training providing psychotherapy, suicide prevention and crisis management. The applicant should have at least two years experience working at a college counseling center. Minimum qualifications include a Masters or Doctoral degree in a mental health field from an accredited college or university; AND must be licensed in Georgia.


Preferred Qualifications


Preferred Qualifications include: The selected candidate must also have experience in psychotherapy with adults and a commitment to serve a multicultural college student population, and have at least two years experience working at a college counseling center. The candidate must be eligible to and demonstrate experience as a clinical supervisor. A successful drug screening and criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.


Proposed Salary


The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $56,723 - 62,314 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities include: A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide ethical and theoretically sound psychotherapy to a diverse college student population.; They will have experience manage crisis situations.; They will be able to find creative ways to manage limited resources.; They will be comfortable working in a team setting.; They will demonstrate the ability to support the growth of mental health clinicians-in-training.; They will demonstrate the ability to build strong relationships with diverse community partners, such as university staff and faculty, ResLife, Student Health, UPD, system mental health support programs and the university crisis management team.

Conditions of Employment


All selected candidates are required to submit and successfully pass a background investigation to include reference checks and verification of academic credentials (if applicable). Other additional requirements may be required based upon specific position duties:


• A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;

• Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.

• Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
