Job Summary:


If you enjoy being part of a clients' walk on their wellness journey; like to use your clinical skills; and enjoy working in an environment where there's never a dull moment, then corrections is for you! Pay starts in the mid 80's and is negotiable based on education and experience.


The correctional mental health counselor triages, assesses, and provides counseling services to the adult population of a correctional facility. Mental health counselors respond to request for services, conduct mental health intakes, and work collaboratively with security and the medical department to facilitate the restoration, stabilization, and improvement of the client's overall mental health. The ideal candidate possesses strong clinical judgement and assessment skills, has experience working with severe and persistent mental illness, and possesses clinical knowledge in mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. The candidate is professional, dependable, works well in a fast-paced environment, is able to multi-task, and functions well both independently and as part of a team.


Education Requirement:

Masters Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology.

Licensure as LCSW, LPC preferred; will consider LMSW/LAPC

CPR certification

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide individual mental health counseling services to the adult population of correctional facility.


- Conduct group counseling services as needed.


- Conduct initial mental health assessments per timelines set forth by company policy and/or accrediting agencies.


- Respond to mental health emergencies by providing crisis management and stabilization interventions.


- Respond to patients request for mental health services.


- Conduct group counseling services as needed.


- Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team and security staff to achieve overall patient wellness.


- Provide behavioral health and suicide prevention training to medical and security staff.


- Serve as liaison to community partners to facilitate discharge planning.


- Complete mental health documentation in electronic medical record system per required timelines.


- Must be able to pass background checks and obtain/maintain facility clearances.


- Conduct other duties as assigned.
