OUT-Patient SCI and Day Program Couselor

The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia, is recruiting for a licensed full-time outpatient professional counselor to work with clients living with spinal cord injury (SCI) and neuromedical injuries/diseases. Applicants should have proficiency in working with medical or rehabilitation populations, and ideally, interdisciplinary treatment teams.

Primary responsibilities for this new position include

active intradisciplinary treatment team participation (SCI Day Treatment Program and clinic team participation)

provision of evidence-based individual, family, and group interventions

provision of medical psychoeducation for patients, families, teams, and community

The Department of Psychology is a large, collaborative group of professionals, providing services in brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, and pain management. The outpatient counselor may also be involved in training and supervision of students, as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Fully licensed mental health provider in the State of Georgia (or eligible for licensure in GA if licensed in another state).

Master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, or related field with training in neuromedical patient populations and trauma/grief counseling. CACREP-accredited program training is preferred.

Ability to demonstrate strong conceptual, interventional, and communication skills. Must be capable of providing client, family, and team education regarding critical issues related to adjustment/coping associated with medical conditions. Must exhibit strong teaching and communication skills for patient, family, staff and community education.
