Counselor - North Georgia Technical College

  • ·         Provide short term individual counseling to students to assist in resolving personal problems.
    • ·         Knowledge of privacy practices including HIPAA and FERPA.
    • ·         Knowledge and adherence to professional ethics set by the American Counseling Association, National Board of Certified Counselors, and other credentialing boards.
    • ·         Knowledge of counseling techniques and professional protocols.
    • ·         Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary vocational/technical education.
    • ·         Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
    • ·         Knowledge of community and college resources for mental health.          
    • ·         Skill to work cooperatively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff.
    • ·         Skill to make timely decisions.
    • ·         Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
    • ·         Skill in decision making and problem solving.
    • ·         Skill in providing mental health counseling, assessment, and referral.
    • ·         Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Physical Demands

    The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The work is typically performed in an office.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    •       Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, clinical mental health, or related occupational field.

    •       A current Georgia license as one of the following: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or, Clinical Social Worker, Master Social Worker, Marriage and Family Counselor, or APC (Associate Professional Counselor) within one year and full licensure within 3 years.

     

    Preferred Qualifications (in addition to minimum qualifications)

    •       One year counseling experience preferably post-secondary experience
