JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Child Specialist works as part of a multidisciplinary team responding to allegations of child sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and exposure to other forms of violence or trauma. Provides evidence-based, trauma informed, mental health assessments, treatment plans and clinical interventions to child victims and their non-offending caregivers and family members. Provides all clinical, mental health interventions in a manner that is developmentally and culturally appropriate to all children and their families. Responsible for quality documentation of therapeutic services.
Assists in ACCC’s response to mental health crisis situations that arise during any services provided by ACCC, including forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, support groups or therapy. This position requires a working knowledge of the laws related to protected health information and privileged mental health records.
May testify as a fact witness, when legally required by court order. May also provide expert testimony regarding various topics, including, but not limited to the following: dynamics of child abuse, child maltreatment and exposure to violence; effects of trauma; trauma assessment tools; and evidence-based trauma treatment modalities.
This position requires knowledge of child protection/law enforcement systems, child development, child communication, and child trauma related to child abuse. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. This is a 40 hour per week salaried position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in creating and maintaining a warm, welcoming environment for ALL clients, agency partners, and coworkers
- Work collaboratively with the MDT providing services at the child advocacy center.
- Communicate effectively with child victims, witnesses, and others regardless of age, sex, social, economic, cultural, or ethnic backgrounds, maintaining a strict standard of confidentiality.
- Support agency awareness and participate in fundraising events
Program Services
- Assess and screen children impacted by abuse and/or trauma.
- Complete Intake Assessments with children impacted by abuse/and or trauma and their non-offending caregivers
- Provide trauma assessments, evaluations and treatment plans, including non-offending parents, siblings, and/or extended family members
- Conduct ongoing psychotherapy utilizing evidence-based treatment modalities (TF-CBT, EMDR, etc.) with child and adolescent victims and non-offending caregivers/family members.
- Conduct collateral and conjoint therapy sessions with non-offending caregivers
- Provide adjunctive support services with client families and non-offending caregivers
- Co-lead psychotherapy/support groups for children and non-offending caregivers
- Maintain all relevant and timely clinical documentation, tracking, and file maintenance
- Facilitate collection of formal assessment data including all measures designated for initial evaluation, monitoring of ongoing progress, and determining therapy outcomes
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to clients on caseload
- Assist in ACCC’s response to mental health crisis situations that arise during any services provided by ACCC, including forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, support groups or therapy (suicide assessments, initiate transportation to an emergency receiving facility, etc.)
- Participate in clinical team case consultations and multi-disciplinary, cross sector communication and collaboration on behalf of children and families
- Conduct community outreach, education, training, and presentations on child abuse and trauma and the role of ACCC, at the request of ACCC leadership.
- Provide Stewards of Children training to clients, as indicated, and/or to the community or partners, upon request
- Work with Victim Advocates to prepare children and family members for any legal proceedings and possible testimony.
- Provide child victims and non-offending family members with education about the criminal justice system and victim rights.
- Advocate for crime victims and family members to access and receive community and crime victim resources.
- Network with the multidisciplinary team members to ensure cooperation among all members of the team.
- Upon request, provide expert testimony regarding child abuse and exposure to violence, the effects of trauma and various treatment assessments and modalities during court proceedings involving child abuse cases investigated by the Cherokee County multidisciplinary team.
- Collect and maintain program data as required by all grant contracts and memorandums of understanding.
- Ensure all client and service data is entered into electronic case tracking system and other grant client tracking systems to allow for routine statistical reporting.
Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary to carry out the mission of the Anna Crawford Children’s Center.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related degree.
- Must be licensed or licensed-eligible in Georgia
- Minimum of 3 years of experience providing direct services to children and families impacted by abuse and trauma
- Training and experience in providing evidence-based trauma assessment and treatment with child victims and their non-offending caregivers, preferred
- Knowledge of criminal, child protective and legal systems, preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team with maturity and professionalism, appreciating different points of view and ability to resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.
- Ability to remain flexible in a child-first work environment.
