Description
This presentation will help participants learn strategies to assess religious/spiritual scrupulosity in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in a culturally sensitive manner. Participants will identify ways to develop culturally responsive exposure hierarchies when delivering Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) treatment for individuals presenting with scrupulosity. Participants will learn how to distinguish between the practice of creating discomfort that is therapeutically appropriate versus enacting exposure activities that are disrespectful to an individual’s beliefs and values. Participants will also learn how to consider the differences and overlap of valued religious activities and unhelpful compulsions in this treatment. Case studies will be introduced to help illustrate the concepts that have been taught.
